Biomass Waste Carbonization in Piranha Solution: A Route to Hypergolic Carbons?

نویسندگان

چکیده

In the present work we report for first time carbonization of biomass waste, such as stale bread and spent coffee, in piranha solution (H2SO4-H2O2) at ambient conditions. Carbonization is fast exothermic, resulting formation carbon nanosheets decent yields 25–35%, depending on starting material. The structure morphology were verified by X-ray diffraction, Raman, photoelectron microscopy techniques. Interestingly, obtained spontaneously ignites upon contact with fuming nitric acid HNO3 conditions, thus offering a rare example hypergolicity involving solid fuel (i.e., hypergolic carbon). Based relatively large interlayer spacing as-produced carbons, simple structural model proposed observed hypergolicity, wherein molecules fit gallery space carbon, exposing its basal plane defect sites to spontaneous reaction strong oxidizing agent. This finding may pave way towards new type propellants based latter exclusively waste solution.

Biomass Gasification: An Alternative Solution to Animal Waste Management

Thermogravimetric analysis was used to examine the thermal behavior of dairy manure as a pyrolysis and combustion feedstock. Nitrogen and air were used as purging gases to analyze the pyrolysis and combustion reactions, respectively, and heating rates of 20 o C min -1 , 40 o C min -1 and 60 o C min -1 were applied. An Arrhenius model was used to estimate the kinetic parameters (activation energ...

Production of Silicon Carbide Liquid Fertilizer by Hydrothermal Carbonization Processes from Silicon Containing Agricultural Waste Biomass

Wastes from agriculture or sewage systems have several properties, such as huge volume, high humidity, and high organic composition. According to past studies, sugarcane extract, peanut shells and rice husks have high silicon content. Chemical conversion of biomass feedstock will enhance usage and provide value to agricultural waste. In this research, we applied hydrothermal carbonization to co...

Hydrothermal carbonization of municipal waste streams.

Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) is a novel thermal conversion process that can be used to convert municipal waste streams into sterilized, value-added hydrochar. HTC has been mostly applied and studied on a limited number of feedstocks, ranging from pure substances to slightly more complex biomass such as wood, with an emphasis on nanostructure generation. There has been little work exploring ...

Hydrothermal carbonization of biomass as a route for the sequestration of CO2: Chemical and structural properties of the carbonized products

A highly functionalized carbonaceous material (hydrochar) was obtained by means of the hydrothermal carbonization (250 oC) of two representative types of biomass, i. e. eucalyptus sawdust and barley straw. This product has a brown colour, it contains around 50-60 % of the carbon present in the biomass and it is composed by particles that retain the cellular appearance of the raw material. These...
